SUMMER CAMP LEADERS

Vancouver Botanical Gardens Association is seeking four summer camp leaders to plan and deliver nature-based day camps for children ages 5-10 at VanDusen Botanical Garden. VanDusen’s summer camps promote environmental stewardship and a love of the natural world through a fun blend of science, gardening, games, crafts and garden exploration. This year’s camps feature botany and ecology, growing and eating fresh food, birds, and bugs. Visit our website to learn more about our camps here.
Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver full-day, nature-themed day camps to children ages 5 to 10 years old
- Provide campers with an educational, fun and meaningful experience
- Ensure the safety and wellbeing of campers
- Supervise a team of volunteers and junior counselors
- Communicate effectively with parents
Qualifications and experience
- Some post-secondary education or a strong background in ecology, biology, education or a related field
- Experience working with groups of school aged children in a camp setting
- Willingness to work outdoors in all weather
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively and respectfully as part of a team
- Dedication to environmental awareness and sustainable living
- Current certification in standard first aid AND a clear criminal record check obtained prior to the start date
Availability & Eligibility Required full-time, Monday to Friday from June 3 – August 27, 2019 This position is funded in part by Canada Summer Jobs or UNAC Green Spaces. To be eligible you must be:
- Between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
- Canadian citizens, permanent residents or have refugee protection status
- Legally entitled to work in Canada
Wage $16.00 per hour (40 hrs per week)
