Two summer student trail assessment positions available
The District of North Vancouver has an exciting summer opportunity with the Parks department’s Natural Parkland team assisting with trail related projects.
Primary duties include collecting trail data in the field, mapping hiking and biking trail features, installing parks signage, and producing a report detailing the various projects through the summer.
This is a heavily outdoors based position, hiking into semi-remote locations on a daily basis, in variable weather. Being comfortable working in a forested setting with a work partner is essential to the success of this position.
To apply for this position, interested individuals must:
be enrolled in full-time studies at a post-secondary institution,
be returning to full-time studies in September 2019,
have their own transportation for traveling to and from the field,
be physically capable of hiking for extended durations in rugged terrain,
have valid first aid training (Example: Occupational First Aid Level 1)
The following attributes would be considered an asset for this position:
experience in mapping, data collection, and GIS software
experience in backcountry travel and working in remote settings
experience managing data and photos
relevant experience in short form report writing
Hours: 7:00 am – 3:30 pm (32 hours per week)
Work Week: Tuesday – Friday
Start Date: May 21, 2019
End Date: August 2, 2019
Pay: Approx. $28 per hour
