Job Description

This position will include the following duties:

·      Assisting with site plan and road development field data collection and layout

·      Assisting with various silviculture-related surveys

·      Bark beetle and fuel loading surveys

·      Some manual labor as needed

·      Data entry and management

·      Assisting with extension activities

Other duties may include:

·      Assisting with research project measurements and maintenance

·      Assisting with consulting work in the Williams Lake area

·      Work with visiting international volunteer interns

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Job Requirements

This is an internship position, term position in Williams Lake. The work-week is 40 hours, Monday through Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm with a 30 minute unpaid

lunch break. Altered hours and occasional weekends will be required for particular events/projects.

 

Applicants must be enrolled as an undergraduate student (2nd year or greater) at the time of application, preferably in the UBC Faculty of Forestry, and be a Canadian resident. We are seeking dynamic and resourceful applicants who have an interest in forest management and have some knowledge about plant/tree identification, and surveying and mensuration techniques. Attention to accurate and quality data collection and management is required.

 

Applicants must have a valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s License or equivalent. Familiarity with driving a manual transmission vehicle, first-aid certification and familiarity with MS Excel, ESRI GIS products, and GPS unit use would be assets.

 

This position will require working outdoors in all weather conditions; driving a 4×4 vehicle on gravel roads; competence with using map, compass and GPS; and the ability to demonstrate initiative and good judgment in establishing priorities. If the successful applicant needs to enroll in a Field School, scheduling will accommodate.
