Overview of Position
Forests Ontario’s education and awareness programs foster the next generation of skilled professionals and communities to care for our forests. We inspire youth and communities to take part in the stewardship of our environment and we are laying a foundation for a healthy future for all. Forests Ontario is seeking an enthusiastic individual who has a passion for environmental education and awareness for an Education Outreach Coordinator role. This is a full-time, contract placement.
The Education Outreach Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating, implementing, and leading Forests Ontario’s Education programs, workshops and events. They will report to the Education Manager and are responsible for updating website information; support the creation of program communication pieces and resource development. This position will also include conducting program and community outreach. In addition, they will be maintaining, updating, entering and, analyzing program and event data collected in the field and entered via web-portal; provide data analysis of results, and support program development.
The Education Coordinator oversees the development of education resources used by participants in preparation for events and workshops; leads outreach to schools and educators across the province to promote program and event registration; oversees program administration, and supports funder reporting and deliverable requirements. The Coordinator works with relevant contacts to ensure that local workshop leaders have all the necessary supplies and resources to carry out regional programming and ensures that locations are secured for workshops. In addition, the position will coordinate additional program logistics where necessary, including the delivery of webinars and presentations, as well as online learning tools and booths at festivals, conferences, and events.
Education Outreach Coordinator duties
Reporting to the Manager of Forest Education, this position’s responsibilities include:
- Liaise with a network of educators, volunteers and organizations;
- Coordinate and execute small and large-scale education events including Ontario Envirothon workshops & competitions, Tree Bee competitions, in-class presentations and activities for special events;
- Manage and develop partner relationships;
- Resource development (i.e. lesson plans, workshops and activities), proposal and report writing;
- Analyze the success of programs and events and implement new ideas and improvements;
- Support strategic direction of education and awareness programs;
- Attend and represent Forests Ontario at trade shows, conferences and industry events;
- Support communications, outreach and fundraising work as required.
Candidates should have the following:
- Post-secondary student in a field of studies such as Forestry, Ecology, Biology, Botany, Conservation, Management Information Systems, Records Management, Culture and Technology;
- Demonstrated interest in and a commitment to a healthy environment;
- Attention to detail and process-oriented;
- Excellent organizational skills;
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills;
- Event coordination and execution experience;
- Demonstrated ability to multi-task and work independently to achieve deadlines;
- Must have a valid Full G driver’s license;
- Conversation or fluent in French considered an asset;
- Working knowledge of SalesForce considered an asset, and;
- First Aid and CPR certificate and current Vulnerable SectorCheck considered an asset.
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Currently unemployed or underemployed;
- Able to work in a full-time, permanent position;
- Intend to lead an environmental career in STEM or natural resources;
- Have not previously participated in a federal youth employment program;
- Graduated from a recognized post-secondary institution with a 2-year diploma or 4-year degree, and;
- 30 years of age or younger, Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or have refugee status.
