Our organization is a small staff-owned environmental consulting firm employing about 20 people in ecological and hydrogeologic positions. Azimuth has offered consulting services to clients in central Ontario for the past 20 years. Most staff have been employed with the company over the majority of their professional career and many have worked for Azimuth for over a decade. Most senior managers began their careers with Azimuth and have enjoyed the opportunity to grow with the organization over time.
Job Description
We are looking for a motivated individual to complement our field team by providing knowledge of hydrogeological principles and field techniques. Our firm is engaged in projects involving groundwater resource management and contaminant evaluation for porous media and fractured rock environments, while support to various other environmental projects will likely be incorporated into the required tasks.
The preferred candidate is expected to work independently and/or under the direction of a project manager / technical expert on various projects including but not limited to: site monitoring for groundwater and surface water, environmental drilling, well testing, water level monitoring, water quality sampling and data compilation. The candidate may also assist with data analysis and report preparation to document existing conditions and support environmental impact reports and permit applications. These undertakings are part of projects involving water-taking, wellhead protection, landfill design and operations, stream rehabilitation, contaminant transport assessment, environmental site assessment project and a variety of related activities. Senior staff are available to support all technical efforts and provides a corporate review of all work. Although not required for all tasks, the physical demands of the job will include walking, hiking, climbing, bending, lifting and upper body strength during well purging. As well, given the type of monitoring programs that will be completed, there is a requirement for the ability to carry and/or lift field equipment (up to 40 lbs) at some job sites.
The preferred candidate must be comfortable with working in the field for the majority of the time in all types of environments. Excellent organizational skills are required with the ability to manage and prioritize several assignments at one time while ensuring delivery within specific deadlines and budgets. Strong computer skills would also be an asset and at a minimum should include all Microsoft Office components. Any experience in one of the following areas should prove beneficial: groundwater quality sampling; exploration / environmental drilling; pump testing; quaternary & bedrock geology interpretation; and ESA / remedial work.
The ideal candidate would have a College or University graduate with either a Bachelor’s degree in civil/environmental/geological engineering or science or a C.E.T. (Environmental Technician/Technologist) diploma. 1 to 2 years of experience would be beneficial, but not required. Current certificate designation may prove beneficial, but not required (e.g., Well Technician license). The salary is negotiable and commensurate with the candidate’s qualification.
