Position: National Conservation Engagement Intern

Purpose and General Description:
Combine your passion for the environment with your love of public engagement during this exciting 12-week internship, which will have you connecting people with our mission and sharing the impacts and stories of our public engagement programs.
Working under the National Coordinator of Engagement, you will help strengthen and build support for NCC’s two core public engagement programs – Conservation Volunteers and Nature Destinations – and become a storyteller by developing communications content for our social media channels, website and blog.
Through this dynamic internship, you will have the opportunity to explore how to effectively engage the public online in land conservation while gaining experience with a leading national environmental non-profit organization.
This is an ideal position for post-secondary or graduate students currently studying Communications, Public Relations, or Natural or Environmental Sciences and who are interested in the human side of land conservation.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Assist with the delivery of the engagement portfolio’s communication plan, including magazine article, print media, blog and web stories
  2. Create communications content to promote Conservation Volunteers program through NCC’s social media channels, website and blog
  3. Assist with the editing and publishing of Conservation Volunteer events on engagement platform using WordPress
  4. Help build NCC’s portfolio of digital assets by collecting, editing, labelling and archiving photos and videos for engagement programming
  5. Assist the National Conservation Engagement team with ongoing activities as needed
Required Skills and Attributes:
This posting is targeted to someone possessing the following skills and abilities:
  1. Enrolled in degree or certificate in communications, volunteer management, public relations, or a related discipline;
  2. Ability to work independently and in team environments
  3. High attention to detail with excellent time management and organizational abilities
  4. Exceptional interpersonal skills, including confidence with journalistic-style interviewing techniques
  5. Exceptional writing skills, with a particular aptitude for identifying and telling stories
  6. Experience researching, editing, proofreading and fact-checking
  7. Has an interest/experience in public engagement and communicating environmental topics in a written format
  8. High level of comfort with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  9. Photo editing and/or graphic design experience is an asset
  10. Bilingualism in English and French an asset
Eligibility:
  1. Must be between 15 and 30 years old (inclusive) at the start of employment;
  2. Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or a protected person as defined by the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act;
  3. Must have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial legislation and regulations.
  4. Must have registered as a full-time student in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year (in or outside of Canada)
Terms of Employment:
  1. Full-time (37.5 hrs / week), 12-week position (January 6 – March 27). Salary is $17/hour.
  2. Position is based out of Toronto
