TRANSFOR-M Masters program

Master program is organized by five European and three Canadian universities:

  • Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg (Germany)
  • Bangor University (Wales, UK)
  • University of Eastern Finland (Finland)
  • University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences (Austria)
  • University of Padova (Italy)
  • University of British Columbia
  • University of New Brunswick
  • University of Alberta

This is a 2-year course-based Master’s program (1 year in Canada, 1 year in Europe) leading to dual degree in the field of forestry and/or resource and environmental management. Each student applying from a Canadian university will spend one year at a host university in Europe (students can prioritize their choices in the application) and one year at the home institution in Canada.

Each UBC student will receive upon completion of the program:

  • the UBC Master of Forestry (MF) degree

and one of the degrees offered by one of our European Partners:

  • Albert-Ludwigs-University Freiburg (Germany):  Master of Forest Sciences
  • Bangor University (Wales, UK): M.Sc. Agroforestry or M.Sc. Conservation and Land Management or M.Sc. Environmental Forestry
  • University of Eastern Finland (Finland): M.Sc. Agriculture and Forestry
  • University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences (Austria): M.Sc. Mountain Forestry
  • University of Padova (Italy): M.Sc. Forest Science

Students will work with Liaison Officers to develop a learning plan that will outline courses to be taken at the Host institution and at the Home institution during the two years. Each student will pay the normal tuition fees at their home university for both years, but will receive a tuition fee waiver at the host institution. Student will pay any extra costs required at the host university (medical insurance etc.). The tuition fees at UBC are approximately $5,000/year (after international tuition award for international students).

UBC TRANSFOR-M students study the first year in Europe in one of the host universities following the program that they have been accepted in.  The second year MF program at UBC is very flexible.  The required courses are:
