IN THE FIELD, FOR THE FUTURE
Do you want to contribute to positive change in the world? Do you want to understand social and environmental challenges in a more interdisciplinary and immersive way?
Join an international group of students and instructors for an extraordinary five-week program. Cycle, kayak, boat and walk through the Salish Sea, visiting the coastal communities of British Columbia and Washington State as you develop the capacity and confidence to lead your community on the issues that matter most to you.
Live and learn with a cohort of students from both Canada and the U.S., as you explore the richness and complexity of this transboundary region and the relevance of place in working towards social and environmental change. Visit with Indigenous elders, interview local politicians, and see some of the wildest parts of the Salish Sea, on both sides of the international border. Explore strategies for working towards ecological sustainability and social equity with passionate educators and other inspiring change-makers. Then get ready to take effective action in your community!
This year’s Redfish School of Change runs from June 20th to July 24th, 2018.
Students receive credit for three environmental studies courses from the University of Victoria or Western Washington University, and six months support on their environmental and social justice action projects. Undergraduate students from all disciplines and universities are eligible and encouraged to consider this program as an extension and deepening of your on-campus studies.
Visit www.schoolofchange.ca to see the eligibility requirements and learn about financial support. Applications are accepted until February 1, 2018. Funding is available for students with need.
