A public lecture by Andrew Heald
Technical Director
Confor: Promoting Forests and Wood, Confederation of Forest Industries (UK)
12:00, Tuesday October 17th, 2017, CAWP Caseroom
Can the UK learn from past mistakes and move to a more mixed productive forestry model? The UK is the 3rd largest timber importer in the World and has only 13% forest cover, compared to a European average of 36%. Can post-Brexit UK find a balance between forestry expansion, and a desire to preserve iconic open landscapes?
The WWF is promoting a new model of plantation forestry which works with local communities and ecosystems, whilst also ensuring a sustainable return for developers. Andrew will share his thoughts and experiences from working in the UK, and explain why it’s not so different to working in Uruguay or Ghana.
Refreshments will be served.
