The UBC Conference on Social Action – Sept. 17th

On September 17th, 2017, the UBC Conference on Social Action will bring youth together to engage in interdisciplinary thought, discussion and action that catalyzes social change!

University is a unique opportunity to organize students and faculty from across disciplines to work together towards addressing the shortcomings of our world that we feel most passionately about. As a university institution ranked 31st in the world, we as UBC students must reflect on our capacity to meaningfully contribute to these issues and prepare ourselves for our endeavors both during and after our degrees.

The UBC Conference on Social Action will equip students with the skills and knowledge needed to effectively partake in social change. Discussions, workshops and a design challenge held throughout the day will allow students, regardless of their year or area of study, to feel confident in their ability to make a difference in the world.

The conference exists to achieve three main objectives:
1. Put social issues at the centre of the UBC student experience by generating greater awareness of the issues and how they relate to our daily lives.
2. Motivate students to involve themselves in organizations working on social change or, if an organization for a particular issue does not already exist, start one of their own.
3. Demonstrate the value of interdisciplinary work to successfully address a particular issue.

If you are passionate about a social issue and wish to equip yourself with the tools necessary to create change, we encourage you to join us on September 17th.
