Hello Forestry!
The UBC Mountain Film Festival is happening this week: check it out!
Feb. 11th: UBC Mountain Film Festival
7:00pm Frederic Wood Theatre
The Environmental Sciences Students’ Association (ESSA), UBC Varsity Outdoor Club (VOC), UBC Ski & Board Club, and UBC Surf Club present to you a film series that explores the intersection of skiing and snowboarding with climate change, relationship to place, and indigenous sovereignty. We will have directors or athletes in to speak at all of the films, a big raffle, food from Sprouts, and drinks by donation.
This week’s film, The Radicals, follows an active group of snowboarders and surfers, as they drift away from their respective sports into the world of activism. The athletes travel across British Columbia in a quest for extreme landscapes while uncovering critical social issues and resistance. From the Tahltan fight for the Iskut Headwaters, BC Hydro’s corruption in Xwísten, art as resilience on Haida Gwaii, to a coastal uprising against fish farms, each community teaches the athletes to understand what it means to be a true radical.

Doors will open at 6:30pm and we hope to start the film at 7:00pm. A quick intermission will follow, then our MC will lead a discussion with Tamo Campos, a professional snowboarder, environmentalist, and producer/director of The Radicals.
